There is this general belief among the ill-informed (mostly liberals) that unions somehow benefit all workers in the U.S. That may have been true 100 years ago when unions made headway into workers rights. But in those days, the rights of workers were so inhibited, that they could barely pass as human rights. The recent decision in Wisconsin dealt a blow to unions and so called collective bargaining.
So who cares? According to this source, which is a relatively recent article, the percentage of U.S. workers who belong to a union is less than 13%. That means that less than 1 in 7 working persons in the U.S. at the time of this article was covered by some kind of union. So the reality of today is that relatively few workers have a union standing behind them. This makes the union folks nothing more than a special interest group. And it’s odd that these union bosses resemble the thug-like ‘copper bosses’ that the unions fought so hard against long ago. Like this union rep who struck a 5 foot 1 woman who was filming the scene.
Michelle Malkin has a full story on this goon at her site here. Sorry Unions. You don’t represent American values any more. Step aside and take your place in the annals of history where you belong.
As mentioned earlier, I am re-reading “Atlas Shrugged” in preparation for the upcoming film. I always like to see how they hack a prolific book into a movie. In this case, I understand it’s to be a trilogy which at least gives it a chance.
I have not read the book in quite some time and re-reading it now reminds how relevant it really still is. Do you remember the part about the “Anti Dog Eat Dog Rule” formally known as the Equalization of Opportunity Bill? It’s a bill put together by the railroad consortium in the setting, to stifle large railroads from running smaller railroads out of business. I see many parallels to Barack Obama’s “Healthzilla” with it.
For one, Healthzilla is a direct intervention of big government into a free enterprise area they don’t belong. Secondly, it will no doubt affect competition in the health care industry as smaller carriers will have to carry a bigger burden. And it will probably affect competition in ways we can’t even foresee or haven’t thought of yet. Thirdly, Healthzilla is still enormously unpopular among conservative thinking people.
All these qualities make it a near direct parallel to that bill in Atlas Shrugged. How did the bill turn out there? You’ll have to read the book to find out. Unfortunately, Healthzilla is reality, not fiction.
PS: I added the word ‘Healthzilla’ to my Word spell checker; I have a feeling I’ll be blogging about it a lot.
I am fed up with liberals and their perverse ideas about how the law should be used. Liberals like Michael Ratner are the reason that our legal system is as clogged as Oprah’s arteries. He contends that Bush needs to be ‘prosecuted’ for torture during his presidency for the waterboarding affair. Even though he is advocated this to be done in Switzerland, it’s still a useless game. What are they going to do? Extradite him to some leftist EU country?
Listen up liberals. Conservatives are sick and tired of your “Blame Bush” games. George W Bush may not have been the best president, but he was certainly better than that poor excuse for a leader we have now. He did what he thought was necessary to protect the U.S. against terrorist. Liberals like Ratner seem to forget that terrorists killed 3,000 people in 2001. A debt is still owed for that and waterboarding was what they deserved (and more).
All that aside, isn’t it time to stop blaming Bush? The Blame Bush game is a poor ploy to take the attention off the real problems we have now: Barack Obama and his cronies. Shame on CNN for carrying this piece of liberal editorial shit and double shame on Google on front-paging it!
Today I googled “Where are the Jobs” in Google News. Not surprisingly, very few answers popped in that query. What’s wrong Google? Can’t answer that question? My guess, is there simply isn’t much press involving that question. Here is another example of the left wing mainstream media protection Barack Obama from negative publicity by simply avoiding the subject.
On one hand, the American people do not need to be reminded of that question. The question is all around us every day as we watch the continuing decline of our collective affluence. However, the American people do need to be reminded that our illustrious president is doing nothing to assist or influence the situation in a productive way.
The only relevant result that popped up was yet another one of his speeches made at Intel where he (once again) promoted education as a source for innovation. How many different ways is he going to roll that lame piece of wisdom into his speeches. Not that I don’t agree with that, but Americans need jobs NOW. We need them now as well 10 years from now and 20 and so on. So that education angle doesn’t solve today’s problems.
Liberals are finally acknowledging the fact that their ‘lord and savior’, Barack Obama is not quite up to delivering that hope and change he promised them. Instead of blaming Barack Obama for the state of things today and instead of blaming themselves for being foolish enough to fall for that “hope and change” BS, they continue to shift the blame to another one of their big bad bogeymen: the Corporation. This liberal opinion piece appeared recently in the New York Times and it typifies the liberal blame game.
While millions of ordinary Americans are struggling with unemployment and declining standards of living, the levers of real power have been all but completely commandeered by the financial and corporate elite. It doesn’t really matter what ordinary people want. The wealthy call the tune, and the politicians dance. So what we get in this democracy of ours are astounding and increasingly obscene tax breaks and other windfall benefits for the wealthiest, while the bought-and-paid-for politicians hack away at essential public services and the social safety net, saying we can’t afford them. (source)
Waaaaa.. Cry us a river! Do liberals ever stop to think that if perhaps they made better choices at election time, this would be less of a problem? The idea of personal responsibility completely escapes liberals like this one.
Instead of seeing corporations as the big bad bogeyman, see them for what they can give us: Jobs. Where do liberals think jobs come from? Do they think private sector jobs fall out of the sky? The cost of doing business in America is huge and liberals don’t realize this. I doubt if this liberal has ever looked at a business Balance Sheet or Income Statement. Tax breaks are essential for businesses who in turn can create jobs and do the hiring.
The reason the ‘corporate bogeyman’ isn’t hiring is that they don’t see leadership in this country right now. They see Barack Obama for what he really is: A sham, a fraud, the great pretender.
The liberal news is blooming today with flowery stories about Barack Obama’s performance at the Daily Prayer Breakfast. You know what ‘performance’ I’m talking about – the one where he pretends to be a Christian. Who am I to say who is a Christian and who isn’t? Right. It’s not my place, I admit that. But at the same time, I am not buying this any more than I bought this act the first time he did it.
One of the problems with Christianity, is that just about anyone can say he or she is “forgiven” and call themselves a “Christian”. Christianity is a case where actions speak louder than words. If you are a Christian, then most likely your best friends are also Christians. In fact, you probably met them at Church or some such gathering and saw their actions before you became friends.
Barack Obama is a man of many words, there is no arguing that. He is perhaps one of the better word spinners of today. But that doesn’t make him a good president. In fact, his own words, like many presidents before him are helping to undo him. He ran his campaign on emotions – “Yes we Can” and “Hope and Change”. So how is that “Hope and Change” working out for you by the way? Bottom line, Barack, put up or shut up. His Daily Prayer Breakfast speech was just that – a speech. And as I posted before, America Cannot Run on Speeches Alone!
The ‘Cry me a River Express’ is now crying about this factoid from Washington State.
Washington is one of just a handful of states that allows illegals to get Driver Licenses. A practice that has long drawn the ire of conservatives in the state. I mean why why why? For one thing, this sends the message out that illegals can get easily set up here. Might as well hang a sign at the border: Illegals – Proceed Directly to Washington State. It also diminishes the status of the Driver License as an authoritative piece of identification for important personal matters – such as getting a passport or getting housing.
I have no doubt this loophole is the reason for this ‘sudden increase’ in illegals. There are new bills floating in the state legislature which would close this loophole. There have been efforts in the past but they have failed due to various liberal special interests. Democrats have in the past, been all too willing to let special interest groups – like the “State Commission on Hispanic Affairs” – pull their puppet strings. However, these bills were authored by a Democrat so it’s possible the state’s Democrats may be moving to center on this issue. One can only hope anyway.
